Mahna Mahna
"Babe, what kid show did that song come from? You know, the one that goes: Mahna mahna. Do do do do do. Mahna mahna. Do do do do."
"Oh, yeah! I know the one you mean! I remember two pink monster puppets would sing it and the song would stick in my brain for DAYS!" π€ͺ
This is the high brow conversation my husband, Jay, and I have been having lately. π
Every morning, I start my routine: meditate and go downstairs and make us coffee while he lets out our fur babies.
This little ritual is keeping us grounded when quite frankly we can't control a lot of what's going on around us.
We have had some funny conversations like who sang the Mahna Mahna song. (I could have sworn it was from Sesame Street. But Jay insisted it was The Muppet Show. π€)
But we've also had some deep money dates that didn't feel hard or heavy because we've both been working on managing our triggers and working WITH our money archetypes instead of against them.
I'm a planner. Jay is more of a free spirit. We both crave financial security.
So now when he proclaims, "I want to save $10,000!" I don't immediately go into plan and attack mode and say, "how exactly and for what?!" π±
I say, "Cool. Why is that number lighting you up so I can get on that train too?"
And because I love a plan, I then talk to my trusted financial advisor, Cindy, to tell me what's the best way to get there while taking into account my risk tolerance and my desire to never give up eating out (while staying mindful of social distancing orders, of course π.)
Jay and I both have the same goal: financial security. In the past it was on the execution that we would ruffle each other's feathers.
Is that something you struggle with your partner?
Especially during trying times like these, communication is super important.
Splash in a good dose of Mahna Mahna conversations so the deeper money talks land more softly.
You're basically getting to know each other better and remembering why you got together in the first place. π
And if you'd like an objective ear from someone who has come a LONG way when it comes to communicating with her partner about money, I'm here for you.
Love ya! π€π
